Hold Fast to the Better Angels

My friend, if the times feel divided and heavy, remember that a nation, and a life, are not preserved by anger alone. Hold fast to the better angels of your nature. Speak plainly, act justly, and do the next right thing even when applause is absent. Great trials do not ask whether we are comfortable. They ask whether we are faithful. Stand with courage, but keep mercy close beside it.
